SPRING TERM 2025

Communication & Language

We will continue to encourage speaking in full sentences and using the word ‘because’ to give explanations. We will also be focussing on ‘why’ and ‘how’ questions. We will continue to introduce a range of new vocabulary to help develop social phrases and support children to use this throughout the day.

Personal, Social & Emotional Development

When reading our topic stories, we will be exploring the themes of helping one another, celebrating and discussing the importance of being kind to each other. We will also be learning that sharing is a “win-win situation” and it means that we care about one another.

Physical Development

Our gross motor skills will continue to develop through various PE sessions where we will concentrate on developing agility, balance and control. Fine motor activities will include manipulating play dough, developing scissor control and using various tools such as paintbrushes and tweezers. We will also continue to practise formation of letters by writing with various materials, which include sand, glitter, mud, pencils, pens and using whiteboards.

Literacy

We will continue our learning through Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised early reading programme. We will learn the phase 3 phonics sounds and continue to apply our phonetic knowledge in order to identify, say and write sounds. We will continue to develop our writing during phonics sessions and child-initiated time with our termly writing focus being to write a list. We will continue our weekly reading sessions in school focusing on decoding, expression and comprehension skills. During our ‘Growing’ topic we will learn about how to look after our own Reception garden and we will be planting seeds and bulbs. We will be learning about the celebrations Chinese New Year and Easter. We will use our outdoor area to explore the natural world around us and think about changing seasons.
